PRÉMIO asked some questions to companies in the north of the country involved in the theme of Electric Mobility and who are providing a great contribution to the development of efficient cities.

What is the weight of electric mobility in the cities of the future, the so-called smart cities?
Sustainable mobility is one of the fundamental pillars of smart cities and is based on electric mobility with energy generated from renewable sources. Electric mobility is currently part of our daily lives through different platforms, but we are witnessing a marked transition to this trend to the detriment of fossil fuel combustion engines and which will be predominant in the various modes, whether land, sea/river and air transportation and even in space.
In the future, we will be heading towards cities with less noise, faster travel and less pollution in the air we breathe, which translate into better quality of life levels.
What are Efacec’s main contributions, in terms of electrical mobility, to provide the northern region of the country with infrastructures to make this challenge a reality?
Efacec has taken an active role and assumes the purpose of building a smarter future for a better life, through the development and distribution of integrated solutions in the sectors of energy, mobility and the environment, always focused on digital connectivity.
We were pioneers in this sector when in 2008 we opened the electric mobility unit and, after this period, Efacec has retained a high level of competitiveness in this field, providing the full range of solutions to charge electric vehicles, as well as management systems for the efficient use of electric grid infrastructures.
We believe in the potential of this market and we are at the forefront of supporting and offering the northern region of the country the most appropriate solutions towards a new mobility paradigm.
Is the northern region of the country technologically and humanly prepared to become an international example in terms of sustainability and of the so-called smart cities?
Portugal has been encouraging increasingly over the past few years this relationship between the scientific and technological system and the industry itself and is now on the radar of the large technological multinationals and several industry giants, who chose our country to materialize centres of excellence in the field of innovation.
On the other hand, it is important to highlight the contribution of national universities and business schools that have been rising consistently in the international rankings, thus allowing training and attracting ever more qualified talent and mobility, particularly in the EU brought clear benefits.
The Recovery and Resilience Plan is in itself an excellent opportunity for the country and the northern region in particular, as it tries to ensure long-term sustainable growth and respond to the challenges of the double transition, promoting a more ecological and sustainable digital society.
